These roles are part of a multidisciplinary research initiative to investigate the levels, exposure pathways, and health impacts of plastic-associated chemicals using cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies including:

  • LC-MS/MS
  • High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS)
  • Microsampling Techniques
  • Metabolite Profiling

The successful candidates will contribute to innovative biomonitoring approaches for understanding human exposure to emerging contaminants. You’ll work closely with the Pollution & Health Hallmark Research Initiative, a program that tackles critical issues at the intersection of pollution, environmental science, and public health.

Appointment Level Annual Salary Superannuation (17%)
Level A AUD $85,555–$116,094 (PhD Entry: $108,156) Included

🔍 Key Responsibilities

As a Research Fellow, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing Innovative Analytical Methods
    Advance techniques in metabolite profiling and microsampling for detection of plastic-associated chemicals in biological samples (blood, urine).
  • Scientific Publishing & Presentations
    Contribute to top-tier journals and represent ALEC at national/international environmental science conferences.
  • Collaborative Research & Stakeholder Engagement
    Work with cross-functional teams including chemists, epidemiologists, and policy-makers. Build industry and community partnerships.
  • Funding Proposal Support
    Assist with internal and external research funding applications.
  • Graduate Research Administration
    Coordinate student-supervisor activities, seminar organization, and support the broader academic team.

To be a strong candidate, you should possess:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in:
    • Environmental Chemistry
    • Analytical Chemistry
    • Related disciplines with a strong mass spectrometry focus
