The Hartquist Research Group at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, University of Florida, is inviting applications for multiple fully funded Ph.D. positions in the exciting and interdisciplinary areas of mechanics, materials, and computation.

π Position Summary:
Join a dynamic research team exploring the intersection of mechanics, soft materials, computation, biology, and medical devices. Projects will focus on the multi-scale mechanics of failure in structures, networks, and polymersβdrawing inspiration from both engineering and nature to address global challenges in sustainability and healthcare.
β Minimum Qualifications:
-
B.S. in engineering or science (e.g., mechanical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, physics, chemistry, etc.)
-
Strong motivation to tackle challenging research problems
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Demonstrated problem-solving, leadership, and research experience
π Preferred Qualifications:
-
M.S. in a relevant field (engineering, science, computation)
-
Research experience (publications, patents, etc.)
-
Experimental experience: solid mechanics, mechanical testing, structural characterization, or polymer synthesis
-
Computational skills: MATLAB, Python, machine learning, modeling tools (e.g., ABAQUS)
