About the Opportunity
The Laboratory for Energy Materials at EPFL invites applications for Master’s thesis projects in the areas of ultrafast magneto-chiroptical spectroscopy, materials synthesis, and optical physics. The projects aim to advance next-generation spintronic, optoelectronic, and quantum information technologies by investigating charge, spin, and light interactions in novel soft semiconductor materials.
You’ll join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team with expertise in chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering, working in world-class laboratory facilities.
Focus Areas
Potential thesis topics include:
Chiral light–matter interactions
Materials photophysics and emission studies
Spin dynamics and quantum material synthesis
Ultrafast laser spectroscopy and optoelectronic characterization

Candidate Profile
You are:
A Master’s student in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
Passionate about materials science and spectroscopy
Highly motivated, team-oriented, and able to work independently
Proficient in English (spoken and written).
Preferred Skills:
Previous experience in materials synthesis or spectroscopy is a plus
Familiarity with laser laboratories or optoelectronic device fabrication is advantageous.
