Fully Funded PhD Position at IIT Hyderabad: Advancing Ammonia-Powered Dual-Fuel Engine Technology
The Greenko School of Sustainability at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focusing on the development of ammonia-powered internal combustion (IC) engines operating under dual-fuel mode. This research aims to contribute to sustainable energy solutions by exploring ammonia as a carbon-neutral fuel alternative.
Research Focus
The selected candidate will work on the project titled “Development and Performance Evaluation of a Direct Injection Ammonia-Based Dual Fuel Compression Ignition (CI) Engine”. The research encompasses:
-
Experimental Investigations: Conducting hands-on experiments to assess engine performance using ammonia in combination with natural gas and biodiesel blends.
-
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Utilizing CFD tools to model and understand in-cylinder combustion dynamics of dual-fuel engines.
-
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML): Applying AI/ML techniques to optimize engine operating parameters, aiming to minimize emissions while maintaining performance.
This interdisciplinary approach aims to address the challenges associated with ammonia combustion, such as high ignition delay and low flame speed, by blending it with more reactive fuels and optimizing engine conditions.
