OUR EXPECTATIONS:
We are looking for highly motivated and highly capable team players who want to earn a PhD degree in engineering and work with mobile robots. The candidate’s main goals should be to develop novel robotic solutions, push the state of the art in robotics and perception forward, and disseminate their findings. This involves the following: First, developing new solutions to relevant problems, involving theoretical contributions, and coding. Second, evaluating the proposed systems using real sensor data, running them on a real robot, and the ability to demonstrate approaches live. Third, disseminating the results in the form of papers at high-quality conferences/journals and by publishing code. Candidates should identify themselves with our research lab and their project, be interested in working with real robots and sensors, support the other team members, and engage in and establish joint activities. Finally, we expect support for our teaching activities and guidance of other students. The workplace is Cyrill Stachniss’s research lab at the University of Bonn. The University of Bonn is one of Germany’s Excellence Universities; it ranks among the top universities in Germany and the EU.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MSc degree in computer science, robotics, geodesy, electrical engineering, or similar
- A background (e.g., thesis, specialization, or in-depth courses) in robotics, computer vision/photogrammetry, or applied machine learning
- Strong coding capabilities. Relevant languages are C++ and Python
- Very good English language skills. Knowledge of the German language is not required
