Are you passionate about environmental chemistry, biochar-based filtration, and innovative water remediation? The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a fully funded PhD Fellowship in Environmental Materials Chemistry starting from 15 October 2025.

This opportunity is a collaborative project under the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC). It involves 2 years of research in Copenhagen, Denmark, and 1 year at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), specifically at the Research Center of Ecoenvironmental Research, Beijing.

🌱 Project Overview:

This PhD research focuses on:

  • Iron-rich biochars produced via pyrolysis for water pollution control
  • Granular porous materials as filters for inorganic and organic pollutants
  • Solid-state characterization and reactivity assessment of environmental materials
  • Field testing using column filters for real-world environmental remediation

The PhD includes three primary phases:

  1. Fabrication & Characterization
  2. Reactivity & Mechanistic Studies
  3. Field Implementation & Data Analysis

👩‍🔬 Who Can Apply?

Candidates with backgrounds in:

  • Environmental Chemistry / Geochemistry / Soil and Water Science
  • Materials Science / Chemistry / Environmental Engineering

Experience in laboratory instrumentation, solid-liquid interaction studies, or catalytic remediation techniques will be advantageous.

📑 Eligibility:
